Glen’s Vodka

Today we’ll be reviewing the ever delightful Glen’s Vodka.

Glen’s Vodka is well known for being about as bottom shelf as you can get without buying Sainsbury’s Basics or Tesco Value vodka. At 37.5% for £10.69, Glen’s really does set the bar for low quality vodka. The cap makes bold claims of being “THE EXCITING VODKA”, presumably because anybody buying a bottle of cheap vodka plans to drink it all in one sitting, leading to some wonderful memories, or lack thereof.

Exciting vodka for exciting people.

First impressions of Glen’s gave the aroma of nail polish remover with a subtle hint of vodka. After savouring the aroma, I did a smell comparision with a bottle of acetone and the acetone was actually more appealing. Surprisingly Glen’s tastes much better than it smells. This is a vodka which ensures you get your money’s worth by desperately clinging to the back of your throat and then burning the whole way down until it hits your stomach, insuring you vividly experience every second of the drink.

Where Glen’s really shines is when mixed with anything else. Glen’s makes a fantastic screwdriver on the cheap, as the citrus really kills off the lighter fluid tones of the vodka. Lemonade is also a great choice for getting this vodka to go down quickly. I have previously used Glen’s in a White Russian and while it was slightly overpowering, this is easily fixed by adding more Kahlua.

While Glen’s is not a delicious drink, it is not something meant to be bought to savour the taste. Most people buying Glen’s are probably looking for a cheap drunk and Glen’s provides just that. Besides, anybody pounding shots of it probably doesn’t give two shits about what happens to their liver.

Glens vodka taste JUST like nail polish remover but just even worse and much much stronger just 4 shots of it and your done for it. I don’t really recommend it as the after effects are just bad and horrid. I vomited, swallowed it, chocked on it and got VERY ABUSIVE and AGRRESIVE and VIOLENT and DRUNK like mad. It feels like its burning your insides and takes about 5 seconds for it to reach down your stomach, it leaves a tingling burning sensation on your lips. Its hard to drink the 4 shot! YUCK it is!!

Well i thought i would come on here and write a little bit about Glens, Usually i do go for other types of vodka and on the odd occasion i will grab a bottle of Glens if im looking for a cheap drink. I have never had any issues with Glens until recently when the vodka has had strange smell coming from it. Like something has actually died and been sitting in the vodka..thats honestly the best way to describe it. I thought at first it was my mixer, then the ice, then i thought it was maybe a dirty glass but nope drinking straight from the vodka bottle and there was a really rancid tingy taste.. It ruined my night obviously because it was after 10 and the shops were closed so it was an early bed.. But i have no spoke to a few others who have had the same experience within the week or two as me..

Have no idea how to contact Glens about this there is nothing on the bottle with any information.

Will probably be the last bottle of Glens i buy.

Had the same experience, odd tasting, but bought from a presumed reputable retailer. It’s made by Loch Lomond Distillery (mail@lochlomonddistillery.com, tel. 01389 752 781). With all the concerns of fake and dangerous vodka it made me worried also. Shall try and phone them today, if I have time, to see if this is just a production issue or if there is actually something to be concerned about.

I used to drink Smirnoff until a few years ago, when their prices rocketed. I tried Glen’s and found it ok. About a year ago, a bottle I bought from the co-op had a strange earthy tate to it. I complained to Glen’s, they sent me packaging to return thottle to them via freepost and they sent a replacement. The replacement tasted fine. I thought it was a one off. Last week though, another bottle, this one from Tesco, and this had an oily, slick taste and texture .It was like there was some kind of detergent mixed in it. I tried a different glass, and different mixer, but that taste was still there. Disgusting. I’m not buying Glen’s again.

had the same problem i bought a bottle at Morrisons Rhyl and complained to them they said take it to my local Morrisons which i did and they refunded my money then i bought a bottle from another local morrisons (with much trepardation) and found exactly the same problem (an odd smell and an odd taste ) with the same bar code as the other one morrisons told me that batch had been taken off the shelves and sent me some vouchers for what i paid (99p short) contaced the trading standards and it seem,s they are not interested

I emailed Loch Lomond Distillery to ask for more information about why a lot of people are saying Glen’s tastes like something died in it. They said they would get back to me and then never did. I can only assume they give zero shits about the quality of their vodka, which is fair enough considering it’s Glen’s Vodka.

I’m highly concerned by the level of abuse Glen has received on this message board.

Glen has been with me through thick and thin, the death of my parents (ruled accidental) the loss of my job (he was very supportive) and every weekend since.

Glen provides a shoulder to cry on, a friend to drink with and, on particularly lonely nights, a much closer evening companion.

    5 out of 5

Keep up the good work Glen.
